ATEX

Atex stands for ATmosphères and EXplosives, a potentially explosive atmosphere means an atmosphere that itself is not explosive under normal conditions.

According to ATEX Directive 99/92/EC, potentially explosive atmospheres are zoned by the employer by applying EN 60079-10.

GAS POWDER CATEGORY
0 20 Area where an explosive atmosphere is present continuously or for long periods of time
(very high level of protection)
1 21 Area where an explosive atmosphere is occasionally present during normal operation
(high level of protection)
2 22 Area in which an explosive atmosphere is never present, but if it is present, it persists only for short periods
(normal level of protection)
